Haripur Combined Cycle Power Plant
Owner: CDC GLOBELEQ
- Electrical Power 360 MW
- 1 MHI gas turbine with H2 cooled generator
- 1 HHI triple pressure, natural circulated, HRSG
- 1 Fuji triple pressure reheat condensing Steam Turbine
Process Technology
The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) gas turbine with H2 cooled generator for 3000 rpm, three (3) phase, 50Hz, has a rated voltage of 16kV. Automated starting, synchronizing, loading and shut down is provided by the maxDNA DCS. The DCS also manages the load demand control through the automatic power control system application..
One Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) triple pressure, natural circulated, heat recovery steam generator provides superheated HP-steam, superheated reheat steam and superheated LP-steam. since the HRSG does not have supplementary firing, the maxDNA DCS must control the HRSG based on the available waste heat from the gas turbine’s exhaust.
One Fuji triple pressure (HP, IP & LP) reheat condensing Steam Turbine and air-cooled generator without steam extraction uses the steam supplied from the HRSG.
Background
The Haripur combined cycle power plant is located on the east bank of the Sitalakhya River in Haripur, Bangladesh. The project consists of one gas turbine (GT), one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) with bypass stack, and one steam turbine (ST) including steam bypass system and associated steam/water cycle and plant auxiliaries.
The plant is designed to operate in combined cycle or simple cycle mode with GT by-pass stack opened and combined cycle mode operation with HP/IP/LP steam bypass. The power output is controlled by means of the gas turbine.
During normal operation of the plant the operator carries out his tasks from the central control room (CCR). The essential plant operation and management functions of start-up, shut down and normal load operation will be done with the operator station of the distributed control system (DCS). The plant output is dispatched by the national grid operator.
The DCS is tightly integrated with the gas and steam turbine control systems and interfaces with other auxiliary packaged control systems for remote control and supervision.
Metso’s Scope of Supply
The maxDNA
system has four pairs of Distributed Processing Units (DPU4E). The DCS provide automatic operation and supervision ranging from unit startup, load operation and unit shutdown. Specific functions delivered the plant control are as follows:
- Automatic Plant Start-up and shut-down sequence control
- Automatic Power Regulation control (APR)
- Modulating control
- Binary control
- Data acquisition
- Sequence of events reporting
- Electrical Switchgear Control - Remote commands and status monitoring
- Redundant maxLINKS – Connecting to gas and steam turbines, fuel gas compressor and metering station, water and waste water treatment
- Billing Package – provides automated billing
- Performance Calculation package - maxCALCS
The design of the control and monitoring system was based on the following principles:
- Standardization and interchangeability
- Modular concept of the control system
- On-line-testing of critical parameters
The maxDNA DCS includes the following elements:
1 Engineer’s maxSTATION
6 Operator maxSTATIONs
1 maxSTORIAN for data archiving and retrieval
2 maxLINKS computer connecting to the gas and steam turbines and other plant auxiliaries
There are 2,600 points controlled through the DPU4Es and another 5,000 points controlled through the maxLINKS computers.
