Metso Recovery Boiler Sootblowing Optimizer

The amount and quality of dust and potential carry-over are a direct result of the burning process in the boiler furnace. Boiler section fouling is related to the amount of dust as well as to boiler construction and production rate. Fouling decreases heat transfer to the water and steam, and increases flue gas exit temperature thereby reducing the recovery boiler’s thermal efficiency. Extensive fouling also restricts the boiler availability.

Benefits

  • Enhances recovery boiler availability - extended water washing intervalls
  • Results lower sootblowing steam consumption
  • Self Tuning adapts the sootblowing need to the production environment

Applicable sections

In order to monitor the development of fouling the recovery boiler is divided into applicable sections. Measured and calculated values indicate the fouling degree of each section.

Efficiency through optimization
  • sootblowing performed only where and when needed
  • optimum sootblowing steam consumption
  • maximum potential heat transfer from flue gas to water and steam
  • boiler fouling development monitoring

Controls
  • fouling criteria calculations
  • sootblower selections
  • sootblower controls
  • sootblower efficiency monitoring
  • self tuning
  • boiler efficiency monitoring and reporting

Self-tuning optimizes boiler availability

The intelligent sootblowing system saves sootblowing steam by concentrating on the boiler sections where the fouling is fastest and carrying out the cleaning only where and when it is needed. In addition, the system continuously follows up the efficiency of each sootblower giving higher operating priority to the more efficient blower. This self-tuning feature optimizes the boiler availability and significantly improves the boiler efficiency.

Reliable operation

Continuous monitoring and reporting of the fouling development improves the safe and continuous operation of the boiler.
