Gravitational inertial air classifiers

Gravitational inertial air classifiers

The design of the Metso gravitational inertial air classifier uses air flow, gravity and directional changes to achieve material cut points from 63 - 300 microns (230 to 50 mesh).

Gravitational inertial classifiers are suitable for:
  • Dry production of manufactured sand from crushed rock aggregate suitable for replacing natural sand (see user's experiences)
  • Industrial mineral and mining applications
  • Removing ultrafines giving significantly increased throughput on fine screens and increased production

Main benefits of Gravitational inertial classifiers are:
Dry solution
  • No permit required for water
  • No space required for ponds
  • No drying required for asphalt sands means big oil savings
  • Dry products are easy to handle
  • Moisture control of the end product
  • Suitable for arid and arctic applications

Environmentally sound solution
  • Maximizes aggregate production from quarry
  • Reduces dependence of quarry on natural sand suppliers
  • Reduced natural sand dependence reduces hauling distances
  • Engineered sand offers longer term sand production solutions
  • Minimises waste disposal:
  • Retains ultrafines not requiring removal

Main features of Gravitational inertial classifiers are:
  • Exceptionally low operation and maintenance costs
  • Ceramic lining makes extremely abrasive applications possible
  • Simple Vane Rack changes every 12-24 months only taking 3-4 hours
  • Classifier has no moving parts
  • Very low maintenance requirements
  • Quiet running equipment
  • No dust leakage as operates in negative pressure
